If you work in an office, you might literally have companies begging to recycle toner cartridges on your behalf. If you read a LaserJet toner blog then you will see that it is a great benefit for them, as they can reuse those cartridges and sell them again, making a nice profit for their company and keeping some of the many plastic cartridges out of the landfill.

So it might seem shocking that according to a LaserJet toner blog, only 25 percent of the manufactured cartridges go back to be recycle toner cartridges. That means over 450 million cartridges are simply thrown into landfills. This is a crazy number, considering that recycling not only helps the earth, but helps businesses as well.

The first step to stopping this problem is to make sure that your office is on board to recycle toner cartridges. Make sure that someone is in charge of this, and either assign someone to be if there isn’t or take it over yourself. Find a reputable company that will help you recycle – they should be giving you free mailing from your office for your cartridges or have a pickup box nearby.

Next, talk to the companies near you or that you work with to make sure they are also recycling their cartridges. Try to help out in any way possible – send along the information they need to get started, suggest a reputable company, and give them the contact information to get them on board. You’ll be helping the earth in your own small way.

If they seem unwilling to start, create a cartridge drive in your office building. Let each office know the types of cartridges you will be accepting and put a box in a central location that everyone can have access to. You can then mail off all of the cartridges together when you have a chance, making it easy for everyone to take part.
